Founder, Chairman Green Bank
Manuel J. Mehos is the founder, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Green Bancorp, Inc. Parent company of Green Bank, Mehos has pursued an acquisition and organic growth strategy while others have paused—the bank has grown assets to $1 billion since its $228 million start in December 2006.
In June 2010, Green Bancorp completed a $100 million capital raise transaction with three independent investment firms. In October 2010, the bank opened commercial and private banking offices in Dallas. Currently, the bank is working on another Dallas location and the acquisition of a three-branch bank based in north Houston.
Previously, Mehos was the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Coastal Bancorp, Inc., a publicly traded company with assets of $3 billion that was sold to Hibernia Corporation in May 2004.
Forming Coastal in 1986 to take advantage of the failures and consolidations in the Texas banking, the group became the first acquirer under the federal government’s Southwest Plan. Under his leadership, Coastal completed 13 bank acquisitions between 1988 and 1989 and assumed $1.8 billion in deposits and 53 branch offices.
Prior to banking, Mehos worked for Goldman Sachs in securities sales and trading and at Peat, Marwick and Mitchell as a certified public accountant. Mehos has an undergraduate degree in accounting and an MBA from the University of Texas in Austin.
Mr. Mehos currently serves on the Board of Sentinel Trust and has served on the boards of America’s Community Bankers, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas and Texas Savings and Community Bankers Association; he is a member of the Finance Commission of Texas.
